Learning the Korean alphabet is hard because of the Parrot Problem. 

When you try to learn the Korean alphabet via rote memorisation, you put the letters and sounds into your short-term memory. So they don’t stick in your mind over the long haul. 

The best way to learn the Korean alphabet is to not memorise it. By all means, you can read or watch an explanation of the Korean alphabet. But don’t then try to cram all the letters and their pronunciation into your brain. 

Once you’ve got to grips with the letters and how the Korean alphabet functions, forget studying it and instead observe the letters and sounds in their natural habitat. The best way to do this is to read and listen to Korean stories.

It’s a myth that you need to upend your life and go and live in Korea to get fluent. 

My language learning journey is proof that languages are best learned from home. I’ve done this many times. And although I’ve lived abroad, in Qatar for example, while I was there I learned Cantonese to fluency!
