Are you looking for a blog to practise your English reading skills and learn some new interesting things?
You’ve come to the right place as I've selected the best 13 blogs to learn English.
These can quench your thirst for knowledge and help you improve your English too.
Here they are.
1. Leonardo English
Leonardo English is a website for learners of English who are interested in improving their language skills while learning about the world.
It was opened at the end of 2019 by Alastair Budge, a startup marketer and entrepreneur from the UK.
Alastair is the host of a brilliant podcast show called “English for Curious Minds” and he has a blog too where you’ll find – in Alastair’s own words – “from tips on language learning, partnerships, news, and an insider view on how we produce our podcasts.”
While I was browsing the blog, I found two interesting articles: one about tips on how to use ChatGPT to improve your English and another one where you can read an interview with a learner of English like you.
Cara Leopold is an English teacher from Scotland who helps movie-loving English learners understand and discuss iconic films together so they can improve their English listening, speaking and pronunciation skills.
She is the founder of Leo-Listening, the most amazing website for adult English learners who want to improve their English through movies.
On her blog you can read articles about:
Understanding native speakers
Understand English movies and TV shows without subtitles
English listening tips
Podcast episodes Cara has recorded
Expert interviews on listening skills, language learning and living abroad
Language learning motivation and mindset
and much more.
Cara believes that you not only deserve to be able to work in English but also have a life and deep conversations in English over topics you really care about – like movies.
Cara is the go-to person if you’re a movie lover wanting to connect with other people in English.
She’s also the person who helps me manage my blog and I did an interview with her on her YouTube Channel too.
Fabio Cerpelloni is an English teacher from Italy who believes that reading books isn’t just a hobby but an essential activity for personal and language development.
This is why he organizes self-development book clubs for advanced speakers of English.
Fabio is a Top Writer in Education on a blogging platform called Medium but also has an interesting blog on his website where you can read articles and inspiring stories about language learning and self-development.
If you’re the kind of person who thinks that a day without learning is a day wasted, Fabio’s blog is definitely worth a visit.
On the StoryLearning blog you’ll find articles about grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, listening, speaking, writing, and useful learning resources such as the best apps to learn English and TV shows.
You can have a look at all the English learning articles here.
6. Enchanting Marketing
Do you like writing or would you like to improve your writing, or both?
If so, Enchanting Marketing is the perfect blog for that.
It’s written by Henneke Duistermaat, a famous blogger and copywriter who helps you make your writing persuasive and conversational.
Enchanting Marketing focuses on business writing, but it’s also a useful blog for you if you’re interested in creating engaging and well-written texts for an online audience in general.
Maybe you want to start your own blog in English, or a social media page or a newsletter, or anything else that people will read online. If that’s what you’re planning to do, check Henneke’s blog for great online writing tips.
7. Medium
Medium is a free blogging platform where anyone can write anything and engage with a community of readers and writers.
It’s just awesome.
Create an account and you’re ready to read thousands of articles on a huge variety of topics.
And you can become a Medium blogger too. All you have to do is click on “write story”, write your article, and then publish it for people to read.
But that’s not all.
If you get to 100 followers, you can also apply for the Medium Partner Program and get paid when people read your articles. (Of course, you would need to write interesting articles for people to read.)
This is another great blog for curious minds where you’ll find a variety of articles about:
Health
Science
Culture
Lifestyle
Entertainment
Tech
and many other topics.
Their About page reads, “HowStuffWorks explains the curiosities of our world, delving into everything from cyber security and housecleaning tips to the physics of black holes and the history of slang.”
Cool, huh?
The articles are written by real experts in their fields so the level of difficulty might be high if you’re not an Upper-Intermediate or Advanced learner.
Goodreads is a social media platform for people who love books.
You can connect with other readers, find books, write reviews, keep track of the books you read, and do all things related to reading.
There’s also a blog on the platform where you can read posts written by the community. These are mainly about books, so this is really the best place for you if you’re a book lover.
TED Talks – in case you don’t know – are a series of short, powerful presentations delivered by experts, thought leaders, innovators, and individuals with unique perspectives.
They’re free online and are a great listening resource.
TED, which stands for Technology Entertainment Design, has also a blog – the Ideas Blog – where you’ll find highly informative articles about tech, business, science, arts, and design.
The posts are written by expert people in their fields and they all include ideas worth spreading.
Some of the articles are connected to TED talks. Watching the video first and then reading the article (or the other way round) can not only help you practise two skills at once (reading and listening) but you’ll also get a deeper understanding of the topic being discussed.
Nir Eyal is the author of two nonfiction books titled “Hooked: How to Build Habit-Forming Products” and “Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life.”
He has a blog where you’ll find articles about productivity, introspection, habit formation, motivation, and consumer psychology.
This might be the right blog for you if you’d like to form new habits, get rid of distractions, find focus and be more productive in your day.
There are so many great blogs out there that it’d be impossible to put them all into one list. But these 13 blogs to learn English can be a great place to start.
