Danish isn't one of my eight languages. So I tested each app myself alongside Danish-speaking friends to judge what I couldn't hear.

Treat it as a study partner rather than a teacher and it holds up well. Voice mode lets you interrupt mid-sentence almost like a real exchange, though it has a habit of jumping back in the moment you go quiet, which is exactly when a learner needs a beat to find the word that's stuck.

The bigger limitation is memory. Nothing carries over between sessions: no running vocabulary list, no record of the mistakes you keep making, no plan.

You'd need to ask for a stød correction every single time, and realistically, most people give up asking within a week.

Right for: learners who need a low-friction option to just get talking

Where it falls short next to Langua is depth. My testers picked up on the voice straight away, easier to place as a machine than a person, and nothing's saved between sessions.

Whatever ground you cover in one conversation doesn't carry into the next; there's no running vocabulary and no memory of what you got wrong last time.

4. Teacher AI

Right for: intermediate and advanced learners who want to fine-tune their speaking practice

With 30-plus languages on offer, Teacher AI treats Danish as one option among many rather than a specialism, so don't expect the roster of teacher clones you'd get with French or Spanish.

Its real selling point is control: choose a teacher, then set their pace, their formality, how often they jump in to correct you, and how much English they'll tolerate before nudging you back to Danish.

Because the voices are cloned from actual teachers rather than a generic text-to-speech engine, none of it sounds robotic.

One honest limitation: it assumes you can already hold a conversation. Beginners will find all that customisation more overwhelming than useful; this is a tool for polishing, not for starting from zero.

What About Duolingo?

It has a perfectly good Danish course, so if you're after Danish vocabulary and a reason to open the app every day, it does that job fine.

What it doesn't do, at least not yet, is let you actually speak Danish to it.

The AI conversation tools Duolingo has rolled out for its biggest languages, Video Call and Roleplay, simply haven't reached Danish. Upgrading to Max won't change that, whatever the marketing implies.

So think of it as the habit-builder in your Danish routine, not the speaking practice.
